Laura's Blood on a Page

In my last creative writing post, Tara decided to become Hitler again and comment on me and Tina's post titles and their lack of creativity. Well I say OppositeOfHail Hitler!

I wrote this poem for one of my last assignments for my creative writing class. I just took my final, so my homework posts are over with! Sorrow. This poem is very personal to me. It's actually a poem I wrote in high school, and I completely rewrote it. Enjoy!

Insane Woman at BART

You get a poem, not a post,
Explaining why I've been a ghost
Fading in and fading out.
I'll tell you what that's all about.

It's a long story, I fear.
I've been everywhere but here.
Traveling from coast to coast,
I really had no time to post.

In San Fran, I practiced law,
deposed a man about what he saw.
Then, I engaged in odds and ends
And had a visit with some friends.

I rode the rails on BART's train,
and met a woman who was insane.
I did tons of shopping in Union Square,
And took some photos while I was there.

I came back to loads of work,
which caused me to be a jerk.
With my computer, I shut myself in.
After days, I became pale and thin.

I missed the warm light of day
and wanted to go out and play.
Alas, I was forever stuck indoors,
and it felt worse than doing chores.

Rejoice! I finally got a break.
I didn't know how long it'd take.
So we drove to visit Cuz in DC
And went to the usual spots to sightsee.

The trip helped improve my mood.
Cuz took us to eat Peruvian food.
We stood in line for some fro-yo.
Before we knew it, we had to go

The end filled me with much dread
Because I knew more work was ahead.
Just thinking about it makes me wince.
But it's no excuse for my absence.

So that was where I have been.
No excuse for Laura or my twin.
As Laura says, I've been a busy bee.
But back to blogging for the Sisters 3.

Laura's Creative Writing Homework

I wrote a button poem earlier and I had it workshopped. My class said most of the energy and quirkiness was on top and there was not much to be discovered as you read it, so I edited it. They suggested I give the button character more personality. I just wanted some feedback. Thanks!

Imma B

I love that new Black Eyed Peas song called "Imma Be."  I was singing it the other day, singing "Imma be, imma be, imma imma imma be."  Then Huz responded, "Urra be!"  What??  I thought he totally called me a bitch.  But I realized later that he was just calling me a bee...like specifically a honey bee.  Haha.  He is so misunderstood.  I totally am a B!  This is how my rap would go.  You have to imagine me rapping.  It isn't a pretty sight.  Ready?  You can sing along here.

Check it check it.  Uh.  Yeah.  (This is me getting ready to rap.  It's standard stuff.)

Imma B, imma B, imma imma imma B
Imma B, imma B, imma imma imma B
Imma B, imma B, imma imma imma B
Imma B B B B imma imma B
Imma B B B B imma imma B
Imma B B B B imma imma B

Imma B on another level
Imma B who's rockin' it out like the devil
Imma B even to Huz, my sisters and crew
Imma B you can't change so whatcha gonna do (hah)
Imma B pissin' off all them chicks
Breakin' relationships, and imma B
throwing my drinks cause
Imma B who don't take sips
I don't need any friendships
Imma B takin them pics
You better look fly and shit
Imma B, the flyest chick (so fly)
Imma B even to kings
Imma B who blogs and sings (do it do it - okayy)

Imma imma swing it this way, (imma imma) imma imma swing it that way
This is T to the Three, and imma (imma) be here to stay
21 century until infinity

Laura's Creative Writing Homework

I usually write my poems with endstop, meaning each line would end in a natural grammatical part of the sentence. I never really experimented with enjambment, so I tried to do that more in this assignment.

We had to write a prose or poem in which something changes fundamentally at least once. Not just at the level of the content but with writing strategy. Here is my poem:

I don't want to lie. This poem has no literal or abstract meaning. I just made it up out of no where. There is no wall. I feel like people always try to look for meaning in things, especially poetry, because they need it to make sense. Well, do what you will with it. I hope you enjoyed. :]

Laura's Creative Writing Homework

I'm in a Creative Writing class this semester and I have to write a short story or poem every week, so I thought I'd post them. They're really amateur and I know it. But I have no shame and I've been falling behind in my blogging duties. So here goes!

My Button

There is a button on my jacket
named Herald Wilkenshire III
I consider him a close friend of mine
on account he follows me everywhere I go
But recently I've been noticing something strange
I think Herald's mad at me
I don't think he wants to be friends anymore
because he's been loosening up
and now he's only holding on by one little string
one teeny tiny string separating him and the ground
I tried to tell him not to go
I told him I'm sorry for whatever I did
but he won't talk to me
I fear he may fall any day now
and when he does
I'll miss him dearly
I hope he writes me letters from wherever he goes
I bet you two quarters he's headed to Canada
that's where my dad told me people go when they run away
But I'm pretty sure I'll get a letter eventually
on account we were close friends and all
Maybe I'll visit him
in Canada, I mean.

My "poems" which are usually more like children's stories passed off as poetry, are definitely so much more cutesy than the really deep, and often abstract, poems that are read in class. I'm up for my first workshop this week. I hope people don't tear it up!

My First Creative Writing Assignment

So as you all don't know, I was thinking of being a Creative Writing minor. Well, this semester I took my first Creative Writing class of my minor and I'm already thinking that Creative Writing just isn't me anymore. I was so into it in high school, but something happened because I definitely have lost my skill and interest. I want to write children's books goddamn it! Can't there be a children's book writing class?!

Well our first assignment was to write a poem or short story inspired by the readings we did in class. I hate writing poems. But we have to write half poems and half stories in this class so I figured I'll get the damn poem out of the way first. I really wasn't feeling in the poem writing mood so I asked my friends to inspire me. They jokingly told me to write about a random inanimate object and describe it in great, whimsical details. We had a good laugh. But when I got to my laptop, I couldn't get it out of my head. So I figured, f&%# it. I'll do it.

So here is my first poem of all the horrible poems that are to come. And I refuse to write a sappy love poem. Who do I look like?! Tara?! HAH!

Ode to a Fork

Gleaming silver curving with grace
Oh, my four-pronged companion, how you know my embrace
Like a familiar friend, I grasp you by your stem
You are as precious to me as a rare gem
You expunge all my troubles away by the bite
With each mouthful, I know it will all be alright
Old chum, how I do enjoy when we bond
But I only wish when I confide in you, you'd respond

I just hope I don't get an F...

Spiderman on a Segway (Complete Version)

Laura and I went to Orlando where life is a breeze.
Little did we know that our asses would freeze.
I left Huz behind, sick with fever.
Tina didn't wanna, but we had to leave her.

We had no hats or gloves against the chill
and ran to Walmart and came up with nil.
No matter, we layered with what we got
And pretended that we were somewhere hot.

We visited Universal and Disney by day.
At night we tried to avoid the buffet.
But one time we went to Golden Corral to eat.
And stuffed our faces with potatoes and meat.

The Cat and the Hat was our very first ride.
The place quickly let loose the kid inside.
We saw the Harry Potter ride in full swing.
But sadly, it won't be open 'til Spring.

We continued on and ended in Marvel town.
There you won't ever see Laura frown.
I saw Spiderman and Wolverine on ATVs.
Laura missed it and wasn't pleased.

I described them in not quite the right phrase.
Laura imagined her heroes riding segways.
We laughed to the point of tears at the thought.
Then the park closed, and we were overwrought.

The next day, we went to Disney's former MGM.
There I discovered a spectacular gem
Where real people auditioned and sang for our votes.
We loved the guy who cracked at the high notes.

He belted out Hercules' "Go the Distance"
At what they call the American Idol Experience.
Still my favorite show is Beauty and the Beast.
But Laura's favorite is turkey legs to feast.

Back at the condo, we watched the tube.
We also played battleship and rummikub
And snacked on apples covered in oreos.
We stayed up while our mommy dozed.

Lucky Laura was stuck with me for a week.
By the end, like me, she did speak.
She said my made-up phrases and funny words.
Now she can't deny she's one of the nerds.

It was fun, but I'm glad to be back.
But I gotta get my life on track.
This week I got back to working and jogging.
And of course, I can't forget blogging!

Spiderman on a Segway (Draft)

Because I've been away for too long, I am gifting you with a song...okay, not really. I just wanted to rhyme there. Here is an awesome poem instead, about my adventures in the past couple weeks.

----------------

We rushed off to Orlando where life is a breeze.
Little did we know that our asses would freeze.
I didn't bring enough warm clothes--gloves or a hat.
Unfortunately, Walmart had already run out of that.

No matter, we layered with what we got
And pretended that we were somewhere hot.
We visited Universal and Disney by day.
At night we tried to avoid the buffet.

But one time we went to Golden Corral to eat.
And stuffed our faces with potatoes and meat.
Then back at our condo, we watched the tube.
We also played battleship and rummikub.

The Cat and the Hat was our very first ride.
Our faces lit up, freeing the tiny kid inside.
We continued on and ended in Marvel town.
There you won't ever see Laura frown.

I saw Spiderman and Wolverine on ATVs.
Laura missed it and wasn't pleased.
I described them in not quite the right phrase.
Laura imagined her heroes riding segways.

We laugh to the point of tears at the thought.
Then the park closed, and we were overwrought.
The next couple days was our turn at Disney.
I discovered a show that caused me much glee...

(to be continued...)

----------------

Sorry, can't finish now. Time for bed. But stay tuned for more and maybe even a twist at the end...okay, probably not.

I'm a Poet, and I Know It.

When I was in high school, I liked creative writing, particular writing poems. Ya know the kind where I poured out my heart and soul. And it was gut wrenching. And everything was dramatic. And I just wanted to die. Yeah, the awesome kind! Well, I don't write poems like I used to. Yes, it is sad. But I still have them to enjoy! Because I wrote them down and saved them, baby. I pulled out my old poetry journal recently. Man, are they painful to read. Meaning they are baaadddd...so much so that they are hilarious!

Here are a few gems just for you.

------------------

Sorrow

Love to me saddens my heart and mind.
It expresses to me of what is not kind.
Love around me is love that is for another.
They don't love me; they love some other.
People who I once loved has turned away.
They left me there with nothing to say.
My soul aches and yearns for a caring hard.
I just want someone who will understand.
I need love like any human being.
I wish I can go blind and stop seeing.
The cruel world has done me great sorrow.
I lay in bed hoping there will be no tomorrow.
I look into tomorrow like a dead end.
It will trap me into becoming his friend.
Then it will turn away, and my heart will ache.
It will leave and go on and care for no one's sake.
I suffered greatly, and it will never be repaid.
I had love and happiness, and I knew it would fade.
What can I do to change they way I think and feel.
If there's such a thing as true love; is it real?
The sorrow is buried deep within my soul.
It won't break free. It won't let go.
Love is like a tree because it will eventually die.
I wish I could only say hello and not say good-bye.

Comment: Wow! I am depressing. I read this to Laura today, and she felt bad for me. Haha! Poor poor teenage Tara...no one loved her apparently.

------------------

Who Are You?

Who are you to me?
You were once an insignificant nobody in my life,
a passerby, a stranger...
You watched as I wondered alone,
searching and seeking for something,
something to complete my life.
You were not easy to find.
I looked everywhere, and
I failed many times,
retrieving to my domain to weep away.
I did not even know when
I found you...
thinking you were just another
little something in my life.
My eyes were blocked by the
blazing sun of despair.
I realized it was you when
I gave up.
How ironic!
You were right here in front of me...
giving me the gift of love.
Who are you to me now?
Everything, the world, and life itself.
Your smile brightens my day.
Your touch leaves me weak with joy.
I never knew love
until I knew you.
I will cherish your gift forever,
holding it close to my heart
and never ever letting go.
Now I finally know who you are.

Comment: This poem was written on June 23, 1997. And it was about Huz! Haha! I wonder if this will embarrass him. Oh, well. My favorite part of this poem is "the blazing sun of despair." I try to say that any chance I get now...no matter the conversation.

------------------

1995

A new year, a new feeling, a new hope. Everything is the same yet there is something that is different. Something that has changed. Breathe in the new air, the fresh clean new air. Look around you. Not only look but experience, feel, smell, taste, hear it. 1995! Sigh! Wow, so many memories yet there is a big future ahead. A future full of hopes, dreams, disappointments, love, hate, and a new...everything. What is there? What is out there for me, you, everyone? Can I live it now? Can I see into it and smile or laugh or frown? 1995 has brought me many new thoughts of the past, present, and future. 1995 will always be cherished like the many other years that changed me and made me what I am today.

Comment: OMG! I wrote that 15 friggin' years ago. That is crazy. I've come a long way...or at least I'd like to think so. I thought this poem was apt since today is New Year's Eve. I'll look into 2010 and smile...or maybe laugh...or maybe frown. I haven't decided yet. Haha.

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, PEEPS!

The 3 Sisters Christmas Song

Here is a Christmas song just for you from us. You can sing along here. Merry Christmas, everyone!!

-----------------------

Have a holly jolly Christmas!
We've been blogging through the year.
We don't know all our readers though,
But have a pint of beer.
Have a holly jolly Christmas!
We'll walk by you on the street.
On this blog we're friends you know
and who cares if we never meet.

Oh ho, friend or foe.
Hanging around the tree.
Somebody cares for you.
It's the sisters three.
Have a holly jolly Christmas!
Thanks for following, my dear.
Oh by golly have a holly jolly Christmas this year!

Thanks and Slaps

I do not have a post in mind.
So instead I'm going to rhyme
And tell you what you've missed.
Read on and do not resist.

I gave many thanks and slaps last week
while eating a bird minus the beak.
Hours before I was cooking away,
The meal was soon over to my dismay.

Next was shopping on a black night.
We continued on until it was light.
I purchased a pretty Kate Spade tote,
And Tina bought a J. Crew coat.

We started off with steps full of spring.
Then poor lil' Laura didn't get a thing.
By the end, I wobbled, and Laura did weep.
Huz woke up when I went to sleep.

Then movies, leftovers, shopping, and more fun.
Before I knew it, the weekend was done.
Sunday I flew to Austin for work.
At least I got room service as a perk.

I also got pumpkin lattes with foam.
But I still couldn't wait to get home.
But the airline canceled my late flight.
And I was miserable because of my plight.

I was exhausted and in a haze.
I missed a bunch of work in those three days.
So I've been toiling away to catch up,
Drinking coffee cup after cup.

But I did take a break to watch Top Chef.
Fortunately, my favorite chefs are left!
Lots to blog about but no words are down.
Please forgive me, I've been out of town.

I'll try not to be away again for so long.
Hopefully this makes up for the wrong.
See now there's a post that's new!
Lots of love from this blog to you.

Serenaded in NYC

The city was bustling as usual. The streets were filled with people walking to lunch, to an appointment, or to meet friends. I was actually heading out of the city, back home. I weaved my way through the crowd to get to the train station. I was almost there when suddenly out of nowhere, I heard someone sing directly behind me.

He sang, "All you need is love." That's it.

His voice was so distinctly clear. Almost like his lips were right next to my ear. It was like this beautiful stranger was serenading me. Like he was singing only to me...in this city full of millions. He saw me and just couldn't help bursting into song

It was so sweet and perfect. I smiled to myself. But I didn't want to ruin the moment by turning around. I didn't want to find the person to whom that angelic voice belonged. So I kept walking. He was probably long gone and lost in the crowd anyway.

Whoever this person was...and whatever he was doing. I will always remember it like this...like he was serenading me. And that he looked like Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge singing that same line so loudly and powerfully. And with so much passion. Sigh.

And who said I'm not a hopeless romantic?

But It's Too Early to Battle!

After snoozing the alarm for the hundredth time, I finally forced myself up this morning. I was brushing my teeth with my eyes half open. That was when I saw it...a fly. At first, it seemed I had imagined it as it disappeared as quickly as it came. Then suddenly, the fly came at my head, and I ducked to get out of its way. With its first attack, the fly had waged a war...one I intended to win. I stood in my bedroom against my dresser...as still as possible. I was waiting...waiting for it to fall into my trap. I had my rolled up magazine at the ready. However, the witty little thing flew from behind me and disappeared. It was toying with me. I knew it. I stood with my back against the door, so it could not sneak attack me again. My eyes zoomed around the room looking for it. "Where are you fly?" I said. The anticipation was unnerving. Sweat dripped down my forehead. There it was again. Then it was gone. The ever elusive fly. I decided to change strategy. I slowly walked to the hallway with caution. I plastered myself against the wall in wait. Suddenly, it was there. It came at my head again. The next second, it flew into the hallway bathroom. I quickly closed the door and locked myself in with the fly. Now it was just me and the fly mano a mano. Finally it landed on the mirror. I swatted at it and missed. The fly was now frantically flying in circles to get away. I knew it was not going to land, so I swatted at it in the air...missing several times. I was working off of pure adrenaline at this point. After several more attempts, I hit it...and it fell to the ground by the door. It was injured and writhing in pain. I got my magazine and smashed down on the spot the fly had been, thinking it was over and done. When I picked up the magazine, it wasn't there! I screamed "Why won't you die fly!?" I figured that the fly had escaped under the crack of the door. I opened the door, and the fly was on the other side attempting to escape. I got a tissue and squashed that motherf&*%er! I won the battle!! Then I took a shower, got dressed and headed to work. The End.

Yeah, true story.

Happy 100th Post Day!

We reached 100 today! 100 posts, that is. In acknowledgment and celebration of our hundredth post, the 3 Sisters present you with poems for funzies. I got the idea because I love reading story poems to Tina's daughter. I think they are really fun to read. I don't think Tina's daughter particularly likes them because they are a bit hard to follow and understand. I hope you enjoy our poems anyway.

BLOG STORY by Tara

Welcome to our blog.
We are your host.
Today you are viewing
our 100th post.

What an event!
It's time to look back
to the beginning,
So go grab a snack.

On one fateful night,
Tara had a vision.
This is what led
to her decision.

She called her sisters
to share the news.
Their responses were
hisses and boos.

However, Tara could
not be thwarted
Even though
her sisters snorted.

"Let's start a blog,"
she exclaimed.
"The 3 Sisters Blog
is what it'd be named."

"Laura, you can write
about music and art."
"Tina, I'll think of
ideas to start."

Finally, we began
to see eye to eye.
It was intriguing
that, they could not deny.

That is the story
of this blog, indeed.
So please stay
and continue to read.

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE BLOGGING by Laura

'Twas the night during school,
when I heard Tara say
that a blog we shall start
the very next day.

My heart a'pounding
and my forehead all sweat.
In a blink of an eye,
I began a nervous fret.

I am too young, I told myself,
to lose all my friends.
What an outcast I'll be!
Then I thought, "Oh, that depends..."

No one was to know of my
sick, newfound habit.
So I hid in my hole and
secretly blogged like a rabbit.

And I must admit
these 100 posts have been fun.
And it's all thanks to
Tara that we had begun.

BLOG HAIKU by Tina

What a big event!
We made it to one hundred.
But no thanks to me.
