Cake Boss is TLC's equivalent to Ace of Cakes. TLC definitely needed a good show since Jon and Kate Plus Eight was sinking fast, and I think they found it. Cake Boss features an Italian baker named Buddy who owns, runs and works at his family-owned bake shop in Hoboken, New Jersey. I actually think this show may be better than Ace of Cakes. For one, Cake Boss has more drama, which is always entertaining. Buddy is the boss, but he also works with his family. So that is a recipe for trouble. (Nice pun, eh?) In one episode, Buddy and his crew had completed a Sweet Sixteen cake that had taken days. His delivery boys were moving the cake from the second floor to the van. Then next thing you know the cake is tumbling down the stairs. The delivery boys and Buddy's reaction was priceless. After yelling for a few minutes, Buddy got crackin' and redid the same cake in only an hour and a half. That was impressive. Despite these episodes, at the end of the day, Buddy loves the people he works with. I mean, they are family. It is an interesting dynamic. Furthermore, Cake Boss does more than just cakes. Buddy's bake shop makes other traditional Italian baked goods. And they look delicious. Also, what surprised me is that Buddy can also make more modern cakes...similar to the cakes you see on Ace of Cakes.
These kinds of shows make me wish I could do that. See my earlier post, and you'll know what I mean. I even told Laura that she should be a cake maker. Haha! She has the artistic talent to do it. Plus she has the funky style to make the more modern cakes that people nowadays would love and appreciate. I think it is a great idea (although she totally wrote it off when I suggested it). And I can live vicariously through her. Isn't that what young siblings and children are for? ;)
